Kulturhuset (Culture House) / Borås / Sweden / 2018
Role: Spatial exhibition designer / Graphic designer / Art director / Curator.
For me it all started with the exhibition The road to here through stories that I did for The Textile Museum of Sweden (Textilmuseet). The exhibition that I worked on there was only one smal part of a bigger projekt that the city of Borås had been working on for several years called The road to here (Vägen hit). Their goal was to reach out to and welcome new residents to there municipality and let them get to know others from Borås through cultural activities.
To conclude and celebrate all projekt borne and run under The road to here name. An exhibition showcasing 18 of thees projekts would be put together at the citys Culture House. Opening day was set on the UN day on the 24 October. I was asked to design and help curate this exhibition.
The inspiration for the displays came from things you can find out on the street, or at the roadside e.g. sandwich boards and advertising columns. Arrows and different paths/roads were used both in the graphic material and on floors and walls. Since we only had 48h on sight to instal the entire exhibition and weren’t allowed to leave any permanent marks. I designed the displays and walls to be portabel and ether be free-standing or be fastened without damaging the building.
The road to here (Vägen hit) was project managed by project manager at the Cultural Administration’s- (Kulturförvaltningen) and Culture School- (Kulturskolan) in Borås. Illustrations by: Ida Brogren. River of Light by: Behjat Omer Abdulla (Photo from opening night).
